As Environment Representative, I work with the wider College and University to make sure the MCR is being as green as possible. Fortunately, Lincoln is doing a pretty good job with this: we have mixed recycling, hazardous waste disposal, meat free Mondays, and edible College gardens. However, there is always something more we can do, and I try to get graduates thinking about their personal environmental impact, and engaging with the activities of the College.
This year we have been running #VeggiePledge with over 60 students pledging to reduce their meat and dairy consumption last November - a fantastic achievement for our first year. In Hilary we had a Zero Waste campaign, where we tried to reduce our non-recyclable waste to no more than will fit inside a jam jar. My other activities include coordinating the bike cull with the JCR and encouraging safe cycling by providing bike pumps, information about servicing, locks and lights; coordinating with the college Gardener; movie nights; making bunting for the garden party during Tie-Dyevestment; and inviting external speakers to run environmentally themed events in the College, such as a Bath Bomb Workshop to help beat the Hilary Blues as well as looking at ethically sourced products.
